- Typically used in standard green and red LEDs
- Low cost
- Relatively short life at higher currents
- Max current typically less than other LED technologies
- Life expectation sensitive to temperature
Low/Standard Brightness - GaAsP/GaP (Gallium Arsenide Phosphide/Gallium Phosphide)
Moderate Brightness - GaAlAs (Gallium Aluminum Arsenide, aka AlGaAs)
- Available only in ultra bright leds, red leds
- Relatively low cost
- Good brightness
- Deeper red color (longer wavelength)
- Relatively short life at higher currents
- Life expectation sensitive to temperature and humidity
- Well suited for applications requiring high output power (watts)
High Brightness - InGaAlP (Indium Gallium Aluminum Phosphide, aka AlInGaP)
- Available in green leds, orange leds, red leds and yellow leds.
- Excellent life times.
- Extended life expectation
- Very good brightness in all colors
- Available in AS (Absorbing Substrate) and TS (Transparent Substrate)
- Higher cost
- Life expectation not environmentally sensitive
- Broad range of hues available
High Brightness - InGaN and GaN (Indium Gallium Nitride and Gallium Nitride)
